Arconnect Integrates ar.io’s Wayfinder To Make Access To The Permaweb Resilient

Arconnect, a wallet built on Arweave said a collaboration with infrastructure platform Ar.io  has resulted in the integration of Wayfinder, a tool  developed by the latter which it hopes will reinvent how users interact with the wallet and access the permaweb.

Introduced in September 2023, Wayfinder is a Chrome extension that uses proof of concept and Network Gateway Address Registry (GAR) to power algorithms to do what ar.io calls sorting of gateways to pick the optimal one. The Wayfinder extension runs real-time health checks on gateways in the registry to ensure users have access to the best performing gateways.

There are about 200 gateways on the GAR’s platform and more are expected to join as it is decentralised and ar.io has made the setting up of a gateway easier.

The Wayfinder algorithm uses different parameters to select gateways. For example, while a gateway may be selected for quicker processing, gateways known for high bandwidth could be selected to extract huge dataset and less congested gateway might be chosen to ensure a seamless experience.

“It ensures users are always connected to the most efficient and dependable entry points on the permaweb, guaranteeing uninterrupted access to information at all times,” Arconnect stated in a post.

Arconnect said Wayfinder is already integrated and users only need to enable it in the settings section. It noted that Wayfinder does not require software installation.

Arconnect is the latest project to integrate ar.io’s product. Viewblock leverages GAR on their gateway explorer service while apps like Ardrive have integrated gateway selectors.

The Arweave ecosystem already reacting to the integration. The Director of Ecosystem Operations at Permanent Data Solutions, Jonnie Sparkles, described the development as ‘big milestone’ and called for effort “to keep making the permaweb more resilient”.

Tate Berenbaum who is the founder of Arweave-centric software development company stated that the product of the collaboration between ar.io and Arconnect is a seed for healthy competition to make browsing the web as fast as possible.
