Spheron’s Ambitious Three-click Solution to End Centralised Web Hosting

Convenience, impenetrable security, resistance to censorship, zero down time and gratifying speed would make the list of desirable features by many developers looking to deploy applications and projects on the internet.

For years, web application owners and users got anything but smooth web hosting services from centralised cloud hosting. A major worry in the infrastructure of centralised or corporate cloud network is its single point of failure which causes the collapse of the whole system when technical hitches or attacks occur. At different times in 2021, multiple websites suffered outages due to technical issues by centralised cloud network providers. Deliberate shutdown of the internet in 10 countries in 2022 cost $3.79 billion.

Promoters of decentralised cloud networks say that the challenges centralised platforms struggle with are not a problem to blockchain supported distributed hosting. Spheron, one of the providers of this solution, says it helps to lodge web applications and projects on distributed cloud network in “three clicks”, eliminating the need for developers to input codes. Mitrasish Mukherjee, Spheron’s co-founder and chief technology officer says that compared to centralised hosting, decentralisation is a faster and cheaper approach with internet users benefiting from greater autonomy and freedom as a result.

In his interview with Arweave News, Mukherjee talks about Spheron’s mission to bring convenience to deploying applications and projects on decentralised cloud network and what it’s like taking on big, centralised cloud platforms.

How would you describe what Spheron does?

Mukherjee: Spheron provides the simplest, fastest, and most economical solution to deploy and host your dApps (decentralised applications) on any decentralised cloud network in three streamlined steps: connect your repository; configure your settings; decentralise your applications.

”It allows for quick and easy deployment of dApps on blockchain-based decentralised storage networks, with unlimited storage and bandwidth. Spheron is focused on building chain-agnostic protocols that can run on all kinds of blockchains. Also, Spheron currently supports the Polygon chain.”

This paves the path for making the decentralised web easily accessible to the masses so that they can control their data independently. It achieves decentralisation with a 10 times faster and 5 times cheaper approach in comparison to centralised hosting. Internet users benefit from greater autonomy and freedom as a result of decentralisation.

You recently onboarded 700 plus projects. It’s a big feat. What were the challenges you faced in achieving this?
Mukherjee: Spheron’s triumphant protocol with its MVP in the market has 720+ projects executing on board, 13,790+ successful deployments and deals with 2950+ users. With regards to the number of deployments achieved so far, it’s evident that the protocol is reaching its target audience.

When it comes to the target audience, Spheron intends to empower Developers and Builders from Web3 and Web2 enterprises with its protocol. Spheron protocol is also compatible with individuals looking forward to building in Blockchain.

Spheron’s unique architecture serves it as a no-code platform. Whereas non-developers can also be benefitted in the internet space to build dApps in the decentralised cloud with simple streamlined steps that can be achieved within minutes.

The lack of regulations in the sector and the manpower needed in the area of development of the protocol were the major key challenges faced in the journey.

Spheron provides a three-click permaweb deployment solution. Given that some people believe that Web3 is relatively young and volatile based on the attacks by hackers, how does Spheron ensure that security is top of the list, while striving to provide simplicity of use?

Mukherjee: Spheron provides an array of storage networks that users may utilise to launch their web apps, depending on their needs. Spheron has access to four of these top protocols, all of which prioritise the security of information saved on it. Arweave is the most significant of them.

”The data storage offered by Arweave is underpinned by long-term, transparent economics that allow users to keep replicating information indefinitely.”

This decentralised storage network establishes a permanent information storage network that is safe and accessible from anywhere in the world. The files are encrypted and carefully kept, and only data that you authorise is backed up, safeguarding you against ransomware. Because all of your data is saved on Arweave, it will always be safe and accessible.

Spheron basically helps to host web projects on the permaweb. Looking at how governments and authorities seem to desire to have control over the internet, how has your firm been able to prevent censorship and how well is it performing this role?

Mukherjee: The permaweb sits on top of the basic Arweave data storage layer. The permaweb is similar to the standard web in that it is made up of interconnected documents and apps, but all of the material is permanent.

Because the Arweave network is content-neutral, the permaweb may be used to store a wide range of data, including wikis, PDFs, movies, and web applications.  Once these files have been added to the network, they are constantly available anywhere in the world, at any time.

Furthermore, after they’ve been uploaded, no one — even the original uploader — may change them in any manner, ensuring consumer integrity for applications and document verifiability indefinitely. Browse some community-built programs to get a sense of how it feels to utilise the permaweb.

Developers who want to host their website on permaweb can use the Spheron protocol. It is censorship-resistant because it cannot be changed or removed from the network once it has been implemented.

Users have become acclimated to decentralised consensus technology – the products based on it give them control over their data and provide excellent user interfaces and experiences.

The fundamental advantage of decentralised network management is that it eliminates single points of failure. This is because each user’s workstation is not dependent on a single central server to do all tasks. Centralised networks, on the other hand, are vulnerable to single points of failure. If the central “master” server goes down, individual “user” workstations will no longer be able to reply to queries. Spheron makes sure it upgrades its user with all the facilizations.

Last year, the world saw big companies that host databases on centralised cloud platforms experience outages and offline times, losing money. How does Spheron guarantee that outages do not affect operations of users?

Mukherjee: A content delivery network CDN is a network of servers that caches material near to where each end-user accesses the internet through a web-enabled device and distributes it around the world from an “origin” server.

A CDN is a geographically dispersed set of servers that collaborate to deliver Internet material quickly. A CDN enables the rapid distribution of materials such as HTML pages, javascript files, stylesheets, pictures, and videos that are required for loading Internet content.

Employing CDN is required to mitigate outages. Spheron offers 99.99% uptime and developer assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Decentralised storage systems, unlike centralised servers managed by a single corporation, are peer-to-peer networks made up of individual users that each keep a share of the overall data. This results in a durable and dependable method of data exchange. Spheron aids in the rapid deployment of web apps onto the decentralised network, which only takes minutes.

By the nature of its operation and objectives, Spheron is competing with big firms. How challenging is this, and how does Spheron plan to position itself as a top hosting platform for the webspace?

Mukherjee: Users from all around the world will be looking for a Web3 cloud hosting solution that can securely, affordably, and reliably store their data.
The affordability of web hosting is another important aspect to discuss.

Storage is one of the most costly problems that the web is currently experiencing. As the volume of data grows exponentially, this is the obvious consequence. When compared to centralised websites, decentralised web hosting is cost-effective.

Well-designed storage decentralisation solutions provide for significant cost savings, clearly refuting the classic “optimisation through centralisation exclusively” argument.

That is where Spheron comes to the rescue and helps users move closer to a decentralised web. Spheron is building a cost-efficient platform to help you deploy your app 10 times faster and 5 times cheaper on a decentralised network.
